Group Structure

Our Devolved Structure

The Group adopts a flat decentralised management structure. We operate more than ten separate operating companies which report directly into the Group Executive Directors. The devolved nature of the Group ensures accountability for operating performance lies with each operating company, while the flat structure means that the Executive Directors stay very close to the Group’s operating businesses.

The Group Chief Executive and Group Finance Director set annual targets based on operating and financial key performance indicators and meet with each of our operating companies once a month to review and discuss its performance.

In addition to providing strategic direction, financial expertise and governance, the Group shares best practice and co-ordinates IT, procurement, property, pensions, legal, energy, engineering and communication activities. The total number of employees at the Group level is around 65 out of a total of around 23,000.

+ Our rail operation, Govia, is 65% owned by Go-Ahead and 35% by Keolis. Keolis is a French-based operator of passenger transport services which is majority owned by the French national railway SNCF.
