Southeastern
About Southeastern
Southeastern operates train services throughout Kent, parts of East Sussex and south east London.
From December 2009 Southeastern will run new high speed domestic
services on High Speed 1 (formerly known as the Channel Tunnel
Rail Link) connecting St. Pancras International, Ashford and the
Kent coast. The service will see the introduction of the fastest
commuter trains in Britain and passengers will benefit from
significantly reduced journey times.

Southeastern takes its responsibility to the
environment seriously. In 2008 Southeastern and Southern became the
first train operators in the country to introduce regenerative
braking on the third rail* system. This groundbreaking new system
achieved energy savings by capturing electricity generated through
train braking and returning it to the rail network.
Southeastern have implemented a very successful recycling scheme which means that almost 2 tonnes of newspapers left on their trains are recycled every day.
Working in partnership with the British Transport Police, Network Rail and the local community Southeastern now has a total of 50 stations with 'secure accreditation' and there's been a 25% drop in reported crime on their network, over the past four years.
In 2009, Southeastern achieved Investors in People accreditation, demonstrating its commitment to being a good employer to work for and focusing on staff training and development.
* The third rail or conductor rail is the system by which some trains draw their power. The system is mainly found in the South of England.
