About Go-Ahead London
Go-Ahead London comprises London Central, London General, Blue Triangle, Docklands Buses and East Thames Buses. It runs a fleet of over 1800 buses and accounts for approximately 490 million bus journeys annually on around 180 day and night routes.
The majority of the routes are operated under five or seven year contracts with Transport for London (TfL). These contracts are awarded under a rolling tender programme. The company is also contracted to operate a small number of routes for Essex and Surrey County Councils. In 2011 the company launched an intranet site accessible by all employees. This has been developed to keep all staff informed of issues affecting the company. Investment and innovation are at the heart of Go-Ahead London's environmental programme. It is the first operator to introduce an electric powered fleet of support vehicles and also operates 61 double decker hybrid buses, which emit around 30% fewer carbon emissions.
As with all of Go-Ahead's bus companies, Go-Ahead London has fitted their vehicles with 'black box' Telematics technology to monitor fuel use. The on-board equipment is backed up by a special training course to encourage smooth, fuel efficient driving techniques. The company also has an annual competition which brings together the ‘greenest’ drivers to take part in a series of driving challenges. The ultimate prize is a brand new Fiat 1.2 Twin air motor car. Since introduction, fuel usage has reduced and the number of road traffic accidents has dropped by 10% year on year.
