London Midland
About London Midland
London Midland operates through the heart of England, connecting London, the Midlands and the North West.
Go-Ahead was awarded the London Midland franchise in November 2007. The franchise is formed from the former Silverlink County, Central Trains and Maintrain businesses.
Passengers take over 60 million journeys a year on London Midland services, with over 1300 services a day.
Since taking on the franchise London Midland has celebrated a number of milestones. These have included the introduction of 64 new trains worth over £300m, encompassing the largest ever order of Midlands-built class 172s (for the Snow Hill line), and 37 class 350 Desiros for the Euston line meaning London Midland now has the youngest train fleet of its size in the UK.
Major timetable improvements have also been delivered across the network, including the launch of three trains per hour between Birmingham and London, a trebling of the Northampton to London daytime service, a doubling of the Birmingham to Liverpool frequency and the introduction - and subsequent improvement - of a brand new service between Crewe and London via the Trent Valley.
On peak services, London Midland is running more 12 carriage trains than ever before and has added new services and over 4,300 extra seats for commuters travelling to and from London.
Sunday services have also been enhanced, with more trains between the Trent Valley and London, and between Worcester and Birmingham. In addition, there has been £11.5 million committed to station improvements, including the installation of real-time customer information systems and help points at almost every station on the London Midland network, together with improved wayfinding signage.
Better still, hundreds of thousands of passengers have enjoyed cheaper leisure travel, with the introduction of new Super Off-Peak and Advance purchase tickets on longer distance routes to/from London. A revolution in train company marketing has seen more discount offers to more people than any other train operator including the Great Escape (Go anywhere for £15) and Rail Sale (up to 50% off) promotions.
