"At Go-Ahead, we continue to put our passengers at the heart of our business, and focus on providing efficient, integrated and responsibly operated bus and rail transport. This approach to our operations remains as important as ever".

We focus on five key issues:

Ensuring the safety and security of our passengers and employees, and helping to build safer local communities are absolute priorities for us. Go-Ahead works to strict health and safety guidelines in all its businesses; we also invest in security measures to reassure our passengers and staff and to minimise crime.

Our objective is to achieve a 20% improvement across our health and safety KPIs by 2015*. This year, we have already seen the number of accidents on our bus and rail networks reduced. Almost 90% of our 3,400 buses are fitted with CCTV.

* Target uses 2008 financial year as the base year.

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today. The Government has set legally binding carbon targets, to reduce UK greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. Transport now contributes a quarter of UK carbon emissions, with cars accounting for more than half of this. In contrast, buses and trains contribute less than 5%. More people on our services mean fewer car journeys on the road, reducing congestion and pollution.

Our objective is to operate our services in a sustainable manner and reduce our environmental impact through our Driving Energy Further strategy to reduce carbon emissions by 20% by 2015 (per passenger journey)*. We have achieved 12% reduction to date.

Our passengers are at the heart of everything we do. People make more than one billion journeys with us each year for work or leisure and we strive to make those journeys hassle-free.

Our objective is to attract more passengers on to our services each year by providing a high-quality service that is reliable and convenient.

We employ over 22,200 people across England, and are one of the largest employers in many areas in which we operate. We have a responsibility to all our staff to provide a positive working environment and the right tools to enable them to do their jobs.

Our objective is to be the employer of choice in the sector. We have a unique devolved structure based on empowerment, trust and innovation. This enables our businesses to develop our staff, and reward them for contributing to our success. This year, the staff turnover rate was 11.8%, down from 15% last year.

Providing successful bus and rail services helps tackle social exclusion. Public transport also helps reduce traffic congestion and provides a more environmentally efficient form of transport than the private car.

Our objective is to be an outstanding partner in our local communities, to be the employer of choice in the sector, and keep the communities we serve up to date on our performance.
