Go-Ahead is one of the UK’s leading public transport providers enabling more than a billion journeys each year on our bus and rail services. At Go-Ahead we place great importance on partnership, adopting a collaborative approach with governments, local communities and strategic partners; developing and operating services that create long term value for all of us.
Since our foundation in the 1980s, we have transformed from a small bus operator in north-east England to an organisation providing more than a billion journeys each year on our UK bus and rail services. The Group listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1994 and is included in the FTSE 250.
Go-Ahead’s rail operation is the busiest in the UK, responsible for around 25% of all train passenger journeys. Outside of the UK, we are currently mobilising three rail contracts in Germany. We are the largest operator of bus services in London, running around a quarter of London's buses. Outside of London, our regional bus services account for around 7% of the UK market. We also run bus services in Singapore and from 2018 will begin running services in Ireland.
Our commitment to our customers and our people is central to everything we do. We employ 27,000 people in the UK and overseas who work hard to deliver safe, reliable and value-for-money services for our passengers.
Sustainability and corporate responsibility are integral to our strategy and the way we operate at every level of the business.
We have a devolved approach to the management of our bus and train operating companies. They are run autonomously, are locally-branded, and the management teams are empowered to respond directly to the needs of the local communities they serve.
Working in this way ensures we retain strong local expertise and can focus on the needs of customers and adapt quickly to changing conditions in local markets.
