Go-Ahead publishes its latest sustainability report
Today, on the same day as its AGM, The Go-Ahead Group published its sustainability report for the year ended 28 June 2015.
Go-Ahead has always ensured that corporate responsibility and sustainability are at the heart of its reporting and for the past three years has produced an integrated Annual Report and Accounts which provides a comprehensive view of the organisation.
This sustainability report, is produced annually to summarise and highlight some of the activities Go-Ahead has undertaken throughout the year and supports the Group’s integrated Annual Report and Accounts.
Go-Ahead monitors and reports its sustainability performance and progress through four areas which are aligned with the company’s strategic priorities: society, customers, our people, and finance.
A sustainable public transport network is vital to the economic development of the UK. Public transport makes a strong and positive contribution to the local and national economy, underpinning jobs, driving growth, connecting friends and family, and delivering cleaner and safer travel. More than a billion passenger journeys are made each year on Go-Ahead services, by people going to work, study, or visit friends and family.
David Vazquez, communications and sustainability manager said:
“For us, operating sustainably is about performing well in each of our four business priority areas and identifying activities which help us deliver long-term value to our people, our customers, shareholders and the communities we serve as well as society at large.”
Go-Ahead is a leading UK public transport operator, providing high quality services in the bus and rail sectors. Employing around 26,000 people across the country, over one billion passenger journeys are undertaken on our services each year. We are committed to operating our companies in a safe, socially and environmentally responsible way and are proud to have been accredited with triple Carbon Trust Standard for reductions in carbon, water and waste. In addition to the travelling public, our customers include the Department for Transport, Transport for London (TfL) and local authorities.
Go-Ahead is one of the UK's largest bus operators. With a fleet of around 4,700 buses, we carry nearly two million passengers every day. Our operations are focused on high density commuter markets. We have a strong presence in London, with around 24 per cent market share, where we provide regulated services for TfL. We operate regional commercial services in Oxford, East Anglia, the south east, southern and north east England.
The rail operation, Govia, is 65 per cent owned by Go-Ahead and 35 per cent by Keolis. It is the busiest rail operation in the UK, currently responsible for nearly 35 per cent of all UK passenger rail journeys through its rail franchises: GTR, Southeastern and London Midland.
