Safer working

We follow the highest safety standards and are committed to protecting our colleagues and passengers.

We ensure that our colleagues are well informed of good safety practices and continually innovate to find safer transport solutions.

Safety during Covid-19

The outbreak of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) has had a major impact on communities across the world and on public transport systems. We protect colleagues and passengers by encouraging social distancing on services and implementing enhanced cleaning regimes.

We continue to follow the latest government guidance in the UK, Ireland, Singapore, Norway and Germany. We are doing everything possible to reduce the risk of infection of passengers.

Our bus and rail workers are playing a key role in this crisis and we are supporting them in every capacity – including encouraging good hygiene, displaying NHS advice in internal areas and sending regular, up-to-date information on the latest news and symptoms.

Safer working practices

New technology helps us to investigate innovative transport solutions – be it replacing the rear-view mirrors on a bus with camera technology or launching apps to help passengers to socially distance. In July 2020 we launched the When2Travel app across our UK bus services to help passengers understand how busy their bus services would be.

GTR and Southeastern have their own internal safety campaigns aimed at reducing incidents on the railway and ensuring we have a safer place to work. We run regular training, assessments and investigations to ensure that competencies are up-to-date and have built a culture of safety and ‘zero harm’ across the sector.
